AT his third show in as many weeks, Karl Lagerfeld showed not a trace of fatigue during the Chanel show, either in his physical appearance or with the enormous collection he presented. With characteristic genius, he offered Penelope Tree-style mini dresses, casually cool sportswear that was as good for boys as it was for girls and a taste of the English countryside with tweed plus fours inspired by the ones Coco herself used to wear in the days of her liaison with the Duke of Westminster. The stunning femininity with which Lagerfeld flips out pretty cocktail dresses and piled-up tweed skirt suits time after time leaves no doubt as to his lofty position in the world's fashion hierarchy.
